Ruby M Martin

March 28, 2018

MARTIN (January 1, 1925 – March 26, 2018) 93 years ago, the home of Hilda and Fred Brown of Lethbridge, Alberta, welcomed a baby girl, Ruby May. She grew into a very special young lady, taking her secretarial schooling at Henderson Secretarial School in Calgary, Alberta. After schooling, she worked for the Royalite Oil Company in Turner Valley, Alberta. After the war, she caught the eye of Lewis Martin, from Barnwell, Alberta. The romance started. In 1948, they were married. This began her most rewarding career of all: wife and mother to her two boys, Larry and Keith.

After Lew died in 1974, Mom went back to school to refresh her secretarial skills. She worked several jobs before finding her job at the Red Deer Regional Hospital from 1978-1988. Mom was very active with the Golden Circle in Red Deer.

Mom was a great knitter. She knit afghans for her family and made the warmest socks. Another talent was her incredible felt work. Mom helped knit mittens that were distributed through the Red Deer Christmas Bureau. Mom was a very good cook. At Christmas, she was famous for her delicious Christmas cake, candy, butter tarts, and many more delicious treats.

Mom came to live at the Newbrook Lodge in Brooks in 2006 and then to Orchard Manor in 2015. On Wednesday, March 28, 2018, we bid farewell to Ruby. Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal.

Mom was predeceased by her Dad (Fred) in 1964; Mom (Hilda) in 1976; husband (Lewis) in 1974; sister-in-law (Pudge) in 2005; and brother (Cy) in 2005. Ruby was a loving Mom, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother to: Son, Larry (Randy); Grandson, Randy (Katherine); Granddaughter, Julie (Terrance); Randy and Julie’s Mom, Jacquie; Son, Keith (Margaret); Granddaughters, Jessica and Joeleen (Chad). Mom was also blessed with 9 Great Grandchildren.

As per Ruby’s request, there will be no funeral.
