Kay – Gordon William (Gordie) Kay of Millicent, beloved husband of Jackie and father to Amanda, Whitney and Meghan, passed away on October 10, 2019 at the age of 78.
Gordon William Kay: 1941-2019
Few people have mined out spaces in the hearts of as many people as Gordie Kay has. Gordie’s joy in life came from his family: his ‘wifey’ Jackie; daughters Amanda, Meghan and Whitney; and granddaughter Trinity. He also loved his work as a lawyer, and the beauty he derived from his beloved Millicent home. The joy he found in others was returned tenfold to those around him through his enticing storytelling, and boundless generosity. Gordie passed peacefully, surrounded by family, on October 10th, 2019. Born in Maple Creek, Saskatchewan, Gordie grew up in both Brooks and Patricia. He was deeply rooted in the area, and to its people. His admiration of ranching, and farming led to the demise of many good suits, but the birth of a flourishing lifestyle for him, and his family. Gordie was predeceased by his mother, Doreen Kay, his father, Bill Kay, and his daughter, Meghan Doreen Kay. He is survived by Jackie, Amanda, Whitney, Trinity, and his brother Allan Kay, as well as countless close friends. A special thank you to the staff at Sunrise Gardens in Brooks, who took excellent care of Gordie, Cindy Young, who was the spirit of comfort itself, and to Pastors John and Maggie Thiess, who never shy away from answering the hard questions. A service for Gordie will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, October 18th at Trinity Lutheran Church in Brooks. A reception will be held afterwards at Brooks EID Legion. The family asks that you come prepared with your best Gordie Kay story, and a joyful heart. In memory of Gordie, if family or friend’s desire, memorial tributes may be made to Cantara Safe House in Brooks or STARS Air Ambulance.
