Betty Irene Denault of Brooks passed away in Brooks on January 13th, 2013 at the age of 88 years.
Betty was born in Toronto, Ontario on October 24th, 1924 to Leonard and Fanny Mae Brown receiving her education there. One of Betty’s first jobs was working as a welder in Toronto’s underground ammunition plant during World War 2. She married Jack Denault in 1953 and over the years the couple owned and operated a driving range, pool hall and in 1978 they moved to Tweed, Ontario to operate the bowling alley. After Jack’s passing, Betty began working at the Legion in Tweed and in 1993 she retired and moved to Brooks. She was an adventurous lady and even drove across Canada on her own, twice! She loved spending time with her family and caring for her grandchildren. Betty enjoyed cross stitch, true crime shows and novels, playing solitaire on the computer, puzzles and listening to Big Band music.
She was predeceased by her husband Jack in 1985, her brother Harry and sisters Winnifred, Francis and Margaret. She is survived by her loving family; son, Leonard and his wife Jacquelyn of Riverside, California, daughter, Jackie Hendricksen and her husband Warren of Tilley and son John and his wife Erin of Brooks; 5 grandchildren, William, Justin, Brittany, Dylan, Shannon and 2 great-grandchildren Aidan and Elijah.
In memory of Betty, if friends desire, tributes may be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation of Alberta, 100-119 14 Street NW, Calgary, Alberta T2N 1Z6. She will remain “in our hearts forever”.
