Big Snake, Alice – (Miisaamistah-Kaapiakii, Long Time Crawling Woman) February 8, 1934 – January 29, 2019. The family would like to share at this time the passing of our beloved Alice. She was known to many as a mother, a grandmother, a sister, and a friend. She could make anyone feel important and as though they had a special place in her heart, no matter who they were. Her wisdom, compassion and empathy gave comfort to whom ever was in need of it. Alice was extremely proud and had a tremendous amount of love for her Children, treasured Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren and Traditional Children, who all in return loved her. Alice was well known for her strong belief in Catholic religion, traditional ways and her involvement in the Cursillo Movement. She lived for watching a good powwow along with witnessing a fierce wrestling match and solving her crossword puzzles. Alice was the first woman in Siksika to get a driver’s license, she only paid 40 cents. She worked for Siksika Children Shelter, Siksika Health Services, Blackfoot Tribal Administration in her earlier years. She also worked at SEDCo and was once an RCMP Comissioner, along with being a foster parent. She was also a member of Thunder Pipe Society (Niinaskaa). She is survived by her children: Terry (Ron), Carlon/Dogie (Lisa), Kendra and Son-in-law Butch Wolfleg. Grandchildren: Hadley, Kenneth, Kenton, Wacey, Brooklyn, Robin, Catlin, Cote, Allee, Tad, Brett, Jessica, Daril/Dolly, Seth, Raylan, Arlen, Kaylee, Darlas (her special grandson/caregiver), Dalaree and numerous Great Grandchildren. Siblings: Norman (Liz), Robert (Judy), Dorine, Flora Whitney and Beverly Runner. Traditional Children and Grandchildren: Ricky Running Rabbit (Eulalia), Romeo Crowchief, Darolyne, Shane Wells, Jessie Starlight, Rodney First Rider, Tammy Calf Robe, Stanford and Karen Three Suns, Charity Aubichon (Baby Ashton), Cecile Moyah, Vera Starlight, Randell Abraham. In-laws: Gordan (Christine) Big Snake and Rosalyn Breaker. Extended families: Running Rabbits, Duck Chiefs, Crane Bears, Spring Chiefs, St. Goddard, Long Time Sleeping, Deroche, Stones and Rides at the Doore. Alice was predeceased by her husband Kenneth Big Snake. Parents: Louis & Alice Running Rabbit. Daughters: Debbie & Tim Spotted One and Bonnie Wolfleg. In-laws: Simon (Almena) Big Snake. Siblings: Margaret Many Bears, Alex Standing At The Door, Roy, Norbert, Gregory, Rose Kaquitts, Marlene Flammond, Mable Bebee, Rita Frank, Rosa Doore, Helen Soloway, Jane Drunken Chief, Bobby (Chief), George Stablast, Norma & Llyod Quinney (Frog Lake). Her two favourite companions: Lacie & Tico (her dogs). Alice was also predeceased by other family members, there are too many to mention. The family would like to apologize if we forgot to mention anyone.
Wake Services will be held at the residence of Alice Big Snake (Siksika Nation) on Friday, February 1, 2019 at 6:00PM. Funeral mass will be celebrated at Holy Trinity Catholic Church (Siksika Nation) on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at 11:00AM. Gravesite to follow at Crowfoot Cemetery. Feast to be held at the Gordon Yellow Fly Memorial Arbour. The family would like to thank Siksika Ambulance Services, Siksika Fire & Rescue and all those that contributed with food, prayers and time for family.
